TRAINING

All the things you need to know

WHERE DO WE TRAIN?

We are currently training on Tuesday and Thursday at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Aughtie Drive, Albert Park and at Caulfield Grammar on Saturday (enter via Mcwhae Ave).

WHEN DO WE TRAIN?

The club offers three fully coached adult training sessions per week: No training on Saturday 4th May.

  • Tuesday 6.00-7.00am -  MSAC (check with reception if in indoor or outdoor pool).

  • Thursday 6.00-7.00am - MSAC (check with reception if in indoor or outdoor pool).

  • Saturday 8.15-9.30am - Caulfield Grammar pool (enter via Mcwhae Ave). No training on Saturday 4th May.

Please arrive at least 5 min early to complete check in at the front desk and get your Pointers training card stamped by the coach. Do not pay pool entry - tell reception that you are with Powerpoints (at MSAC let them know you are with MSV and check with reception if training is in the outdoor or indoor pool).

Please refer to emails from the club for changes due to lane availability, events and public holidays.

All sessions qualify as MSV sessions.

HOW MUCH DO TRAINING SESSIONS COST?

Either $180 for a 10 session card or $310 for a 20 session card (20 session cards must be used within 3 months and can be used by the one person only). Remember that this include pool entry as well.

Other MSA members

HOW DO I GET A SESSION CARD?

Cards may be bought only by depositing/transferring funds ($180/$200/$310) to our account. No cash please!

HOW DO I GET INTO THE POOL?

Just tell the staff at the entrance desk that you are attending a Powerpoints training session. They will let you in for free. They might ask to see your club ID card or your training session card to show you are with the club.

HOW DO I CHECK IN?

All swimmers must hand a training session card to the coach for validation prior to entering the water. New swimmers and visitors must pay the coach for one-off sessions prior to entering the water.

I AM A NEW SWIMMER; HOW DOES IT WORK?

The first step is to come along and join us for a free trial swim. Please introduce yourself to the coach; They will ask you questions about your swimming abilities so they can place you into the right lane.

If you have fins, pull-buoy and paddles, please bring them to the training session.

The first session is free (no session fee) then $20 per session (includes pool entry) for the next 3 sessions - these 4 sessions need to be within a month.

After these first 4 sessions the club requires that you register as a member for insurance and administration purposes (except for registered members from other Masters Swimming Australia clubs).

WHAT ARE THE AGE RESTRICTIONS?

As Powerpoints is a masters swimming club, you must be aged at least 18 in order to join.

Prospective members who also compete in amateur swimming events should check with their official governing body regarding their amateur status.

I'M ALREADY PART OF AN AUSTRALIAN CLUB; CAN I SWIM WITH POWERPOINTS?

Registered members of other Masters Swimming (MSV & MSA) clubs are welcome to train with us. The fee is $20 per session or you may purchase a 10 session card for $200 from the coach on presentation of a current MSV registration card. Please introduce yourself to the coach before entering the water.

Visiting masters swimmers from overseas are always welcome to train with us. The fee is $20 per session. Please introduce yourself to the coach before entering the water.

WHAT SWIMMING SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?

There is no strict skill or fitness criteria for participation in club training. However, you will need to have some basic competence in freestyle. If you can swim about 1500m in total and at least 200m continuously then you should be fine. If you think that your fitness is insufficient to train for the full 75 minutes you are welcome to limit your sessions to a shorter duration and gradually build up to a full session.

HOW CAN I GET EVEN MORE?

If you want even more, you can join a session with Bucky's Beavers. Jennie Bucknell, Powerpoints' former Club Captain, current Masters World Champion and 2012 National Masters Female Swimmer of the Meet, runs daytime squads for adults for stroke correction and fitness (9.30 - 10.30am Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Prahran). Suitable for all levels of swimmers. Please contact Jennie by phone on 0423 776 560, and via email at bucknellj@mac.com
