Club Training Program
Location
Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Albert Park Lake (Google Map / Melway ref.: 2K, D7). Many of our sessions are in the fantastic new outdoor competition pool. The water quality and temperature is superb!
Pool entry
Swimmers must pay their own pool entry. Registered members of any Masters Swimming Victoria (MSV) club, including
Powerpoints, can purchase 20 MSAC visits (pool entry) at the concession
price. MSAC visits are stored on a smart card, which is issued when swimmers join the "MSAC Club". The smart card also provides car park access.
Casual fee
The casual training fee is $10.00 per session (paid to the coach). Does not include pool entry (see above).
10-session cards
Club members and Masters Swimming Victoria registered visitors can purchase 10-session cards from the coach at $60 each (only $6 per session). Does not include pool entry (see above).
Checking in
All swimmers must pay the coach or hand a swim card to the coach for validation prior to entering the water.
Training schedule
The club offers seven (7) fully coached adult training sessions per week at MSAC:
- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings 6:00-7:30am.
- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6.30-8.00pm.
- Saturday mornings 9:00-10.30am, followed by breakfast at a nearby café.
- Most sessions contain a mixture of technique, endurance and speed work, except for Wednesdays which are focused on speed (sprint and speed endurance) and Mondays which are focused on aerobic endurance.
Please check the Training Calendar frequently for changes due to events and public holidays.
New swimmers
The first session is free (no session fee; just pay pool entry). After 4
weeks the club requires that you register as a member for
insurance and administration purposes (except for registered
members from other Masters Swimming Victoria clubs). Please introduce yourself to the coach and sign the sheet before entering the water.
Pre-requisites
There is no strict skill or fitness criteria for participation in club training. However, you will need to have some basic competence in freestyle. If you can swim about 1500m in total and at least 200m continuously then you should be fine. If you think that your fitness is insufficient to train for the full 90 minutes you are welcome to limit your sessions to 60 minutes and gradually build up to a full session.
Visitors from other Victorian clubs
Registered members of other Masters Swimming Victoria (MSV) clubs are welcome to train with us and may purchase 10-session cards from the coach on presentation of a current MSV registration card. Please introduce yourself to the coach and sign the sheet before entering the water.
Visitors from interstate and overseas
Visiting masters swimmers from interstate or overseas are always welcome to train with us. Please introduce yourself to the coach and sign the sheet before entering the water.
