STATE LONG DISTANCE SHORT COURSE MEET, 2ND & 16TH SEPTEMBER
Powerpoints' participation increased by 400% - we had no competitors at the last long distance meet! This time Deb Jepsen, Melinda Kemp, Rosa Montague and Colin Shugg all had a go with everyone finishing first in their age group for their event. Lois Hill injured her back so couldn't swim but stayed to help with the time keeping and cheering.
It was great to be at MSAC for this meet with a fast pool, electronic timing & a competitive atmosphere. There is still time to enter 400m and 800m - that deadline is Monday, 11th September. Entry forms from the state website. Send them straight to AUSSI in Williamstown.
WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAUSANNE
Congratulations to Liz Gosper and Archer Talbot who competed last weekend - no doubt more news from the intrepid travellers later.
STATE RELAY CARNIVAL, 14TH OCTOBER, 2006
State Relay Carnival Entry Form (PDF)
As you can imagine, this takes a lot of planning so we are asking you to commit to swimming asap. Could you please fill in the special Powerpoints Entry Form (see link above) and return to us asap and certainly by 15 September?
This could be done electronically (by return email or to treasurer AT powerpoints DOT com DOT au), by fax (9589 3220) or by post. With the electronic version, we will also need you to send a copy of your entry with your signature plus $10 to confirm your entry and for you to be selected for teams. See form for payment details.
The club is subsidizing entries to the tune of $10 per competitor to encourage us all to enter and swim our hearts out to pip Malvern Marlins who just beat us last year. If you agree to swim now but have to pull out before we have to post entries to AUSSI (about 26 September), we will credit you with any money you have paid, but if you pull out after entries have been made and/or substitutions are permitted or do not show at the meet without a good reason (e.g. injury, work crisis etc.), then we will ask you to pay the full cost ($20) of your entry.
We will be using computer software to enable us to select the teams without innumerable bits of paper. To make the whole exercise thoroughly scientific, we need you to fill in the table on the entry page of the attachment with your latest pbs for 25m, 50m and 100m (short course) for all the strokes you are willing to swim. If you don't have short course times, it is not a tragedy. If you are really keen, we found a conversion facility on the following website:
If you are injured and can't swim or if you are just feeling helpful, we would be very grateful if you could come on the day to help organize swimmers. Anyone who can remember last year's Relay Carnival will vouch for the chaos that can occur with swimmers needed in the marshalling room while only just getting out of the pool from the previous relay. Timekeepers are always needed and welcome - no qualifications necessary. If you can help, please fill out the box on the top of the entry page, together with times you are available if have limited time on the day, and fax back to 9589 3220 or post, or hand to Laurie Healy, Rosa Montague, or Helen Whitford.
NATIONALS, DARWIN, 4-7TH MAY, 2007
If you are planning to go to this, there are some super cheap, promotional airfares on Jetstar & Virgin Blue at the moment. $179 one way including taxes & petrol surcharge. Both airlines only have one flight a day (Virgin doesn't fly on Tuesday though) so that is another reason to book early. Flights arrive very late at night but we are organising access to rooms. There is one flight by Qantas via Adelaide that is during the day but it can't be accessed via the Internet for some reason.
We would like to hear if you have booked and would like to book into the apartments which Powerpoints has pre-booked. Rooms are limited, and will be allocated on a first-in first served basis.
If you are staying on for a tour of Kakadu/Litchfield afterwards, it might be wise to book that fairly soon too. Rosa enjoyed a top end tour with Adventure Tours (www.adventuretours.com.au) a few years ago. Feedback from anyone else, is welcome.
Good swimming,
Powerpoints competition Sub Committee-
Rosa, Helen and Laurie
